Sensor Systems V2: Understanding the Updated Sensor Details Page

Sensor Systems V2 is an updated experience for viewing and managing sensors that belong to the same sensor system. This update introduces a redesigned Sensor Details page with improved organization, more flexible graphing, and consolidated tools to help you understand sensor behavior at a glance.

This article walks through the key changes and shows you how to interact with the new Sensor Systems V2 layout.

A sensor system consists of sensors grouped together to create a clear association between the assets that they track, see our Help Center article on Sensor System FAQ to learn more about Sensor Systems and examples of scenarios where creating a sensor system is beneficial. You can also view our article for help on How to Create and Manage a Sensor System.

Interacting With Sensor Graphs

Sensors grouped in the same system can be displayed in different ways using the graphing options described below.

To change how sensors are grouped:

  1. Click the wrench icon on the top right of the chart.
  2. Drag sensors between chart groups.
  3. Create a new chart or remove sensors from a chart as needed.
  4. Save to apply your changes.

You’ll notice that you can choose to display multiple sensors on the same chart. This is useful for instances where you’d like to compare behavior over time. A few notes about how the sensors are organized when you choose to view multiple sensors on the same chart:

  • Sensors that use the same unit type (for example, inches of water column) share a Y-axis.
  • Sensors with different unit types are automatically assigned to separate Y-axes (left and right).
  • Each sensor is shown with a unique color for clarity.

Sensors with incompatible units cannot be placed on the same axis. If a sensor is removed from all charts, it will appear as its own individual graph below. Any sensors remaining in the sensor system that are not assigned to a shared chart still appear as individual graphs. You can choose to drag unassigned sensors into an existing chart at any time.

You can quickly toggle between viewing all sensors according to your Configured Charts and displaying all the sensors on different charts by clicking on the “Collpase/Expand” button, which is located to the left of the wrench on the top of the Sensor Charts.

Graph Details & Controls - Toggling Graph Components

Each sensor now has it’s own colored trend pill below the chart that it is assigned to. Clicking this pill opens additional options that allow you to view or hide different chart characteristics for that particular sensor.

From the pill menu, you can toggle to view or hide:

  • Usage/level trend line
  • Fill markers on the trend line
  • Full / empty reference lines on the trend line
  • All of the above

Selecting to hide any or all of the above chart characteristics updates the pill checkmark to “-”. This makes it easy to keep track of sensors where you have changed the visibility of all or some of its chart chart characteristics. Any Chart where no changes have been made will show a check mark, indicating that all of the sensors chart characteristics are visible.

Collapsible Modules Below the Graphs

The sections below the trends graph are now organized into collapsible modules. These modules can be expanded or collapsed independently, and their state is remembered as you navigate.

Each module shows a summary when collapsed and full details when expanded.

Sensor Measurements Panel

The Sensor Measurements Section, which is displayed to the right of the trends graph(s) on Desktop and to the top of the trends graph(s) on mobile devices, now offers a collapsed and expanded view.

Clicking between the expand/collapse button will toggle between the different states.

The collapsed view displays the Sensor Icon, Name, and current reading. The expanded view will make visible the remaining time left (for level sensors) and the last seen time for the sensor and its associated gateway. You can access the measurements details panel in both views.

Important Sensor Status Changes like “Sensor Missing” , “Battery Critical”, “Unstable Input”, and others will be displayed here in the expanded view of the Sensor Measurements Panel.

Quick Actions Panel

Below the Sensor Measurements Section, you can find the Quick Actions Panel.

The Quick Actions Panel allows you to more easily perform common sensor functions for any sensor in the System:

  • Add a sensor
  • Add an alert
  • Create a task
  • Upload a picture
  • Write a note
